Association for the defense of anti-Semitism Heilbronn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heilbronn local group of the Association for Defense of Anti-Semitism (Defense Association) was founded on October 30, 1928 in Heilbronn and lasted until 1933 . The defense association was the umbrella organization for numerous regional associations with many local groups.

history

In 1890, the non-denominational association for the defense of anti-Semitism was founded. Its declared aim was to realize the emancipation of the citizens of the Jewish faith in practice. Important members were Theodor Mommsen , Heinrich Krone , Hugo Preuss , Paul Heyse and Gustav Freytag . The association cooperated with both the Central Association and the German Democratic Party (DDP) and tried to counteract the Nazi propaganda campaigns through educational work . The chairman of the defense association in 1921 was Georg Gothein , a member of the DDP in the Reichstag.

Heilbronn local group

The establishment of the local branch of the Abwehr-Verein on October 30, 1928 was welcomed by Max Rosengart and Siegfried Gumbel . Heinrich Grünwald was particularly involved in Heilbronn , which made him particularly hated by the NSDAP.

Eduard Lamparter was invited as a speaker on the establishment of the Heilbronn branch of the Abwehr-Verein . Lamparter held the Protestant Church and Judaism department there in 1928 :

“The anti-Semitic race theory favors, breeds and sanctions nationalist arrogance and will to violence, which presumes the right to force down others as less noble and inferior ... the Christian Church must stand up for the fact that completely different realities, namely free will, education, conscience and religion decide on the value and unworthiness of human existence. ... and the Christian Church forgot that Judaism is the soil from which it emerged according to God's will. The rich spiritual possessions that Judaism and Christianity have in common oblige both to a relationship of peace and mutual respect. ... old injustices must be made good and we must help so that no new injustice happens! "

Quote from Götz Krusemarck in 1938 as a reaction to the establishment of the Heilbronn local branch of the defense association:

“The growing anti-Semitic wave caused the Jews to redouble their efforts. Their activity of coming to power in all possible detours grew larger and larger. In October 1928, a local group of the association for the defense of anti-Semitism was founded in Heilbronn. A number of Jewish gentlemen also took part in the founding meeting. A statement made at that time throws a significant light on the Heilbronn "Jewish question". It shows how little in proportion was the resistance that the "broad" population met the Jews. “Whether one should not found such a local group in Heilbronn”, this was the statement “where Jews and Christians live together smoothly, a danger that does not exist”. The justification for the establishment of the local group was seen to be to undertake educational work on the Jewish question among the population. "However, general agreement was reached" it says in the report of the meeting that "it enables a national and moral education about the shadow of hostility towards Jews lying on German history". "
