Eduard Lamparter

Eduard Lamparter (born June 21, 1860 in Geislingen an der Steige , † February 24, 1945 in Stuttgart ) was a German Protestant theologian and politician .

Life

Born the son of a lawyer , Lamparter studied Protestant theology in Tübingen . During his studies in 1879 he became a member of the Normannia Tübingen fraternity . After his studies he became vicar in Gingen an der Fils in 1883 , city vicar in Neuenbürg and Schwäbisch Gmünd and in 1886 parish administrator in Riet and provisional pastor in Dettingen , from 1887 acting pastor there. In 1893 he moved to Nattheim near Heidenheim as a pastor . In 1900 he became second pastor in Schwäbisch Gmünd and in 1910 city pastor in Stuttgart-Heslach . In 1924 he retired.

Lamparter was a member of the German Party (DP), from 1918 of the German Democratic Party (DDP). From 1911 to 1921 he was chairman of the Association of Protestant Workers' Associations in Stuttgart. From 1916 to 1919 he was a member of the Evangelical Regional Church Assembly . After standing for election several times, he became a member of the Württemberg Landtag in 1919 , to which he was a member until 1920.

Lamparter particularly campaigned against anti-Semitism . He was chairman of the Stuttgart local association of the Association for Defense against Anti-Semitism , from 1930 also a member of its main board. 70,000 copies of his booklet Evangelical Church and Judaism from 1928, in which he criticized the notion of the religious and cultural superiority of Christianity over Judaism and advocated a Christian-Jewish dialogue, was distributed.
