The Vermilion River is a right tributary of the North Saskatchewan River in the Canadian Prairie Province of Alberta .
The Vermilion River rises south of Holden in Beaver County . It initially flows east to Bruce and then north to Vegreville and on to Two Hills . Here it turns to the southeast, flows through Vermilion and finally turns to the northeast, before flowing into the east-flowing North Saskatchewan River after about 270 km. The Vermilion River drains an area of 7940 km². Its mean discharge is only 2 m³ / s. In the lower reaches of the river flows through the county of Vermilion River named after him .
