The central theme in Kellndorfer's work is architecture, which, according to the artist, manifests the past and present of a society. Kellndorfer uses a plate camera to photograph private and public buildings of the modern age (1920s to 1960s), including architectural icons by Rudolph M. Schindler , Lina Bo Bardi and Erich Mendelsohn , as well as anonymous apartment blocks of German structural architecture . As a screen print burned into the glass, Kellndorfer transfers details of these architectures into other spatial and urban situations, thereby creating new, ambiguous contexts. These spatial layers define the image as a medial interface at which different levels of reality and reference meet and open up.
