Veronika Kiefhaber (* 23. June 1976 in Karlsruhe as Veronika Werner ) is a German chess player .

Veronika learned chess from her father Clemens Werner at the age of five and immediately became a member of the Karlsruhe Chess Friends in 1853 . Since there was an obligatory girls' board in Baden youth team matches, she was the only eligible girl to play her first tournament game at the age of six. She improved her playing strength quickly and was able to achieve the title several times before the male competition at Baden youth championships.

In 1990 she was nominated for the first time for the youth world championships by the German chess youth . She took fifth place in the U14 female age group in Fond du Lac . In the following years she took part in youth world championships and achieved good placements. From 1994 her sister Isabel , who was two years her junior, was nominated and achieved success.

In 2001 Veronika Kiefhaber won the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

She has played in the women's team of the Karlsruhe Chess Friends since 1994, which appeared in the women's first division from 1996 to 2013 without interruption. After a two-year absence, KSF 1853 managed to return to the top German league in 2015 . Veronika has hardly missed a competition in almost twenty years.

Job and family

After graduating from high school, she began studying ancient history , religious studies and ancient Greek in Würzburg in 1996 . In 2001 she successfully completed her studies.

In 2002 she married the graduate physicist and club colleague Holger Kiefhaber, who holds the title of FIDE master ; Since the 1980s she has played with him at several German youth team championships in the same KSF team. The four children they share are all members of the Karlsruhe Chess Friends 1853.

Her father Clemens Werner is a FIDE master in local chess and an international master in correspondence chess, her younger sister Isabel Delemarre is also an international female champion.
