Veronika Thurner is a German computer scientist and professor of software development for business information systems at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics at Munich University of Applied Sciences .

Career

Thurner visited the High School in Fort Wayne and made in 1989 in Munich her high school . She then began studying computer science with a minor in mathematics at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich , where she graduated in 1994 with a degree in computer science . From November 1994, she was a research assistant at the Department of Manfred Broy worked, in August 2004, she was there to "formally informed business process modeling" to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. Her dissertation was awarded a prize of € 5,000 from the Ernst Denert Foundation for software engineering . After several years as a senior consultant in the field of application development services at a Munich consulting firm she followed in April 2006, the reputation of a professorship basics of computer science and software engineering at the Faculty of computer science of the University of Applied Sciences Landshut . In March 2007 she moved to the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, where she has since been Professor of Software Development for Business Information Systems at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics. From October 2010 to September 2016 she was Vice Dean of the Faculty. Since 2016 she has been dean of the faculty with 1,236 students (winter semester 2016/2017).

Together with her colleague Axel Böttcher and research assistants, she co-initiated measure 1d of the BMBF- funded project “Prepared for the Future” (ZUG) in 2011 . In April 2016, Ludwig Spaenle and Axel Böttcher honored her with the “Prize for Outstanding Teaching”. In May 2014 she had already been honored with the “Individual Prize for Outstanding Teaching” from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture . At the IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON) 2014 in Istanbul , she received a best paper award for her contribution “Self-assessment of freshmen students' base competencies”.

Since March 2014, Thurner has been a member of the program and organizing committee of the workshop series “Student Education and Professional Development in General Key Qualifications” (SagWas) as part of the annual conference of the Society for Computer Science . Since May 2016 she has been a member of the permanent organizing committee of the conference “Software Engineering in the Teaching of Universities” (SEUH). In 2017 she was honored by Zonta with the “Award for Outstanding Management of Career and Family”.

Thurner counted alongside Manfred Broy , Gerhard Goos , Jutta Eckstein and others. a. on the first signatories of the " Munich Declaration on Software Engineering Location Germany " presented at the Conference for Object-Oriented Programming OOP 2016 .
