Verran was a municipality in Fylke Trøndelag on the west side of Beitstad Fjord, which is an arm of Trondheimfjord . The community center was Malm. As part of the local government reform in Norway , Verran was merged with Steinkjer on January 1, 2020 .

The municipality bordered Steinkjer and Namdalseid to the north, Mosvik , Leksvik and Rissa to the south and Åfjord to the west . The municipality of Verran was formed from the municipalities of Malm and Verran, which were merged in 1964. The community center, Malm, was the residence of 1600 of the total of 2600 inhabitants. Other places that were part of Verran were Follafoss, Verrastranda, and Verrabotn.

Most of the buildings were along the fjord, which used to be an important source of food and is still important for transportation.

Verran had an 80 km long fjord shoreline and the road to Fjell was short. The highest point was Sandvassheia at 655 m above sea level.
