The Reconciliation Church in the Neuplanitz district of Zwickau is a church building of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Saxony . It was the first church to be built by an East German regional church after reunification .

location

The church property is located at Erich-Mühsam-Straße 48, on the edge of the prefabricated housing estate that has been newly built since 1973 . In the vicinity of the church are 19th century suburban houses; behind the church there is an allotment garden.

history

On January 1, 1977, the reconciliation community Neuplanitz was founded for the Protestant Christians who moved to the newly emerging district of Zwickau. The first service took place at Ossietzkystraße 15. In 1981 a house and part of the current church property were acquired in Erich-Mühsam-Strasse. (The renovated house is located next to the new church building and is architecturally connected to it.)

Since 1986 the congregation has been planning to erect a traditional church building in the young part of the city. The architect was Andreas Weise . The main building materials were wood, slate and glass as well as natural stone and bricks for the foundation walls. Initially, a building in a timber frame construction was planned, as there was plenty of timber (ash and pine) from the church's own forests. After reunification, building materials such as Moselle slate were also used to build churches .

With his first work, Weise referred to the churches of Otto Bartning , but also to the organic architecture of Hungary ( Imre Makovecz ). The foundation stone was laid on July 13, 1990, the consecration of the church on December 1, 1991.

architecture

The church, easted in a classic way, has an oval floor plan, with a segment being left out in the west. The 30-meter-high free-standing bell tower has the layout of a Latin cross. The church interior is reminiscent of an upturned hull.

Furnishing

The altar designed by Arend Zwicker is a monumental block of sandstone. The slender cross visible on the front is the only cross in the entire church. The altar is spanned by a six meter high, asymmetrical "reconciliation arch" made of roughly hewn steel. It is reminiscent of the crown of thorns . The Paschal candle from wrought iron is a work of Adam Dürningers Herrnhut . The baptismal font and ambo , two pieces of wood based on designs by the architect Weise, are designed as a movable inventory.

Peal

The bell consists of three bronze bells, the bell cage is made of oak and was created in 1992, like the yokes, The following is a data overview of the bell:
