Treaty of Versailles (1758)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The (third) Treaty of Versailles of December 30, 1758 modified the Austro-French treaty from the previous year .

As a result of the war in the Seven Years' War , the burden for France became more pronounced in 1759. France was involved in acts of war not only on the European continent, but also in its colonies. It was decided at the French court to concentrate resources against the Kingdom of Great Britain .

France now reaffirmed the strategic alliance with Austria and the newly joined Russia , but revoked its promises with regard to Silesia, waived all claims in the Austrian Netherlands and cut its aid to Austria and Russia. The contract negotiations are said to have continued until March 1759.
