from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ribnitz armistice was signed on April 7, 1762 in Ribnitz between Prussia and Sweden .

At the beginning of the Seven Years' War , Sweden declared war on Prussia in 1757, but after initial successes against Prussia, it was unable to prevail and compensate for the losses from the Great Northern War . After the death of Tsarina Elisabeth in January 1762 she was followed by Peter III. on the throne. He was an admirer of Frederick II and concluded the Peace of Saint Petersburg with him on May 5, 1762 .

The Swedish state was on the verge of bankruptcy and the Russian threat to enter the war on the side of Prussia, and the previously unrealized success, led the Swedish side to decide to conclude an armistice with Prussia .

Through the mediation of the Swedish Queen Luise Ulrike , a sister of the Prussian King Friedrich II., The three-month armistice between the two states was concluded. This culminated in the Peace of Hamburg on May 22, 1762.
