location

The buildings with the address Beiertheimer Allee 2 are located on the northern edge of Südweststadt , bordering the city center of Karlsruhe, on the west-east main traffic axis Kriegsstraße and near the central north-south axis Ettlinger Straße, the extension of Via Triumphalis . In the immediate vicinity is the Ettlinger Tor with the shopping center of the same name and the Nymphengarten in the north, followed by the Karlsruhe Congress Center in the south . Across Ettlinger Straße is the new building of the Badisches Staatstheater .

Building description and history

The building complex was built in the international style between 1961 and 1965 according to the plans of the Cologne architect Theodor Kelter and the Karlsruhe architects Möckel & Schmidt . It consists of the approx. 72 m high main building with 21 storeys (height uncertain), a four-story long building arranged at right angles to it along Kriegsstrasse and a casino building to the west, which together with the flat entrance building forms a forecourt under which there is an underground car park . The buildings have aluminum and glass facades.

After Badenwerk merged into EnBW in the 1990s and moved into a new headquarters on Durlacher Allee , the district office took over the property for 45 million marks. The complex is a designated cultural monument of the city of Karlsruhe.

Demolition of the building is currently being discussed.
