history

The name Kaltenborn is derived from the Augustinian canons' monastery , which was built here from 1118 and was named after the source of a small stream. It was partially destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 and repealed in the course of the Reformation in 1538. Parts of the foundation walls of the monastery building existed until 1945. There was also a memorial stone. The Emseloh manor, which was renamed Kaltenborn in the 19th century, was built near the monastery on Heerstraße. From the time of the monastery there is still the so-called "Old Brewery", built in 1492. The manor house is from 1565. Other buildings date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The last owner was Hermann Fauser.

In 1945 the estate was expropriated by the Soviet occupying forces , the land was first divided up and then incorporated into an agricultural production cooperative. The mansion suffered a number of changes including the facade, including the removal of the mansards. The mayor's office of Emseloh is currently located here.
