Riestedt is a district of the city of Sangerhausen ( Saxony-Anhalt ).
location
The place is about 6 km northeast of Sangerhausen at the meeting of the federal highways 80 and 86 and has a stop on the railway line Halle – Kassel .
history
The area of the Golden Aue has been inhabited since the Neolithic . During excavations in the course of the expansion of the federal highway 86, extensive findings of the linear ceramics were discovered.
The place is said to have been mentioned for the first time in a document in 777. Today, however, it is assumed that this document was forged.
In the register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery, which was created between 881 and 899, Riestedt is named under the name [R] eotstat as a place subject to tithing in the Friesenfeld district .
Riestedt was an independent municipality until the end of 2005. As part of the municipal reorganization of Saxony-Anhalt, it was incorporated into the city of Sangerhausen on December 1, 2005.
Village church
The foundation of the church is said to go back to the work of the Anglo-Saxon missionary Wigbert . The oldest, still preserved part of the church dates from around 1150. The wooden barrel vault is decorated with a baroque ceiling painting. The church has a baroque altar. The organ, a Maurer organ, dates from 1829.
