In the administrative community of Leuna-Kötzschau in the Saalekreis , eleven municipalities were united to handle administrative business. The administrative community was formed on June 14, 2006 from the administrative community-free city of Leuna and six communities of the administrative community Kötzschau .

The formation of the administrative community had already been approved at the end of 2005 and it was originally supposed to start work on December 31, 2005. However, legal steps against the formation of this administrative community delayed the coming into effect of the corresponding agreement until June 14, 2006. On October 1, 2006, the four remaining municipalities of the Kötzschau administrative community were added.

On December 31, 2009, the communities Günthersdorf, Horburg-Maßlau, Kötschlitz, Kötzschau, Kreypau, Rodden, Zöschen and Zweimen were incorporated into the unified municipality of Leuna .

With the incorporation of the community of Friedensdorf to Leuna and the community of Wallendorf (Luppe) to Schkopau on January 1, 2010, the administrative community was dissolved.
