The Wounded Medal could be awarded to anyone in the Utasha Movement or foreigners who were injured in battle with the enemy .

stages

The wounded medal has two levels:

  • 1st level: Gold medal from 61% injury
  • 2nd level: Iron medal for up to 60% injury

Appearance

The Croatian wounded medal has a diameter of 32 mm and shows the Croatian three-leaf on its obverse , which is covered by two diagonally crossed swords . Underneath is the Croatian threefold . This encloses the U of the Utascha movement, in the space of which a tiny burning bomb can be seen, which in turn is said to be marked with the Croatian coat of arms. The edge of the medal is defined by the semicircular inscription: ZA POGLAVNIKA I ZA DOM (For Poglavnik (head of state) and fatherland) in raised, embossed capital letters. The inscription comes close to the wreath of oak leaves, which is also semicircular in the lower part of the medal.

The Croatian wounded medal was only available in the iron and gold version and not like e.g. B. the German wound badge in three different colors, which should reflect the number of wounds. Instead, the old Austrian model of the wounded medal was used and the frequency of the wounding was indicated by the number of stripes on the ribbon, which were 5 mm wide and blue. For a single wound there was a blue central stripe, for two wounds there was accordingly two stripes evenly spaced from the outer edge, with three stripes so that one lay in the middle of the band and the other two were adjacent to the edge. With the third wound there was a golden oak leaf wreath open at the top, which was placed in the middle of the ribbon as a clasp.

The ribbon itself is 40 mm wide and lined with two white 6 mm wide marginal strips. This is followed by the alternating colors of red / white in a horizontal weave, which are kept in the colors of Croatia. These in turn are crossed by the blue median.
