The Vesta Mormon tulip ( Calochortus vestae ) is a species of the genus Mormon tulips ( Calochortus ) in the lily family (Liliaceae).

features

The Vesta Mormon tulip is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 50 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The nectar glands are shaped like two crescent moon. The tepals are 3 to 4 inches long, white to purple in color and have a red-brown basal spot surrounded by a pale yellow zone.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

The Vesta Mormon tulip occurs in northwest and central California in evergreen pine and mixed forests on clay at altitudes of 500 to 900 meters.
