history

The association was founded in 1907. Sixty years later, VfB Einigkeit merged with local rivals SpVgg Union 08 to form Herford SC 07/08 . This merged on July 16, 1972 with the SuS Herford club founded in 1928 to form SC Herford .

Handball

The handball players of VfB Unity qualified in 1948 for the open indoor handball championship of the British Zone in Bremen . There the team met in the preliminary round on THW Kiel , SV Darmstadt 98 and SG Wilmersdorf . The latter became group winners. In field handball , the team was promoted to the then first-class Oberliga Westfalen in 1960. Two years later, the Herford team achieved their best placement with fourth place and thus qualified for the West German regional championship, where unity was group last without winning points. Finally, the team rose from the league in 1964. A year later, the Herford team took part in the Westphalia championship in the hall and failed in the semifinals at TuS 05 Wellinghofen .

With Jürgen Glombek , the club produced a later German national player.

Soccer

The footballers of VfB Unity rose to the district class in 1950 and initially only played against relegation. In 1953 the team was relegated to the district class and took five years to get promoted again. Just two years later, VfB Einigkeit was about to move up to the regional league . However , the Herford team lost the deciding game for the championship against the tied FT Dützen with 1: 3. The missed promotion threw the club back and in the following 1960/61 season, VfB rose again to the district class. Two years later, the rise succeeded.

With Horst Gamon , VfB Einigkeit produced a later regional league player for Arminia Bielefeld . The footballers used the Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion , which opened in 1955 .
