Viarago is a fraction of the municipality of Pergine Valsugana (TN) in the Trentino-South Tyrol region .

Originally Viarago was called "Viaracum" or "Vilrag", later "Viarac".

The settlement extends on a terrace on the right bank of the Fersen , between 650 and 690 m.

Some streams (the Rio Carpenè, the Rio dei Osei, the Rio della val del Pont and the Rio Minghet) have cut the Viarago plateau and flow in the heels between Canezza and Serso .

history

Settlements from the Bronze and Iron Ages have been found between Viarago and Serso . The oldest finds from Viarago go back to the 1500s before Christ.

Viarago was first mentioned on May 15, 1214. The Gastaldia was founded around the middle of the 13th century.

In 1330 Heinrich von Tirol allowed the Bohemian Nicolaus Paswicz to mine for silver in the publishing house (Viarago).

This resulted in numerous mines , which affected both the area of Viarago and the nearby Fersental (the first German-speaking miners settled there). Mining flourished for around 200 years.

The mines were initially run by donors from the Holy Roman Empire , later they became the property of the most famous noble families in Trentino.

For the extraction and smelting of the minerals, the protective and commercial forests in the area were cut down, to protect the remaining forests, a forest ranger called Saltario was introduced in 1544 .

1804-1808 Gastaldia became a community. In 1928 Viarago was incorporated into the town of Pergine Valsugana . The former communal goods were converted into public goods.
