Viaticum is the tenth album by the Swedish jazz trio Esbjörn Svensson Trio in the twelfth year of its existence.

content

Critics attested the band that despite the long history they would still develop instead of stagnating. In an interview after the album was released, Esbjörn Svensson said:

"We have to develop without knowing how. It still seems possible to do that, although we've been together so long. Maybe one day we won't be able to do it any more. But usually I only think, 'That's it, it's gone, I can't do it any more,' when I'm exhausted. If I just leave it a while, read a book, see a movie, play with my kids, I soon start to feel some music coming again. So far."

“We have to develop without knowing how. It still seems possible even though we've been together for so long. One day maybe we won't be able to do it anymore. But I usually only think, 'That's it! It's over, I just can't do it anymore! 'When I'm exhausted. When I let it sit for a while, read a book, watch a movie or play with the kids, I feel the music rise again. Until now, anyway. "

Kai Kopp certifies that the album is suitable for the masses despite the instruments of a real jazz trio. However, the topics - "despite all the true beauty" - are no longer as catchy as they used to be. Russel Finch finds EST now only sounds similar to themselves compared to their previous Keith Jarrett sound.
