Vicar
Vicar , actually Victor José Arriagada Rios (born April 16, 1934 in Santiago de Chile ; † January 3, 2012 ibid), was a Chilean comic artist who became internationally known for drawing Donald Duck stories for Disney .
Life
The model for Vicar was Carl Barks , who himself believed that Vicar came closest to his style of all Disney artists.
Vicar first completed a degree in electronics engineering and only painted and drew in his spare time. In 1957 he won first prize in a drawing competition organized by the Journalistic Association of Chile. This enabled him to work as a political cartoonist for the Mercurio magazine. His character Ramón , an antihero, had its own series in the magazine for many years.
Between 1960 and 1975 he lived in Barcelona and worked there for various magazines and publishers. During this time he also made some stories from Petzi and drew for Playboy . In 1971 the Egmont publishing house became aware of the draftsman and enabled him to work for Disney.
Afterwards Vicar lived again in Santiago de Chile and was considered a very productive draftsman who produced more than 10,000 pages for Disney alone. Above all, he drew Donald Duck stories, which deal with everyday problems in Duckburg .
On January 3, 2012, he died after a long and serious illness at the age of 77. He has had leukemia for some time.
