Victor A. Gangelin

Victor A. "Vic" Gangelin (* 4. March 1899 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ; † 2. April 1967 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American art director and Designer , who at the Oscar ceremony in 1962 the Oscar for Best Production Design in won the color film West Side Story (1961) and was nominated again for an Oscar in this category.

Life

Gangelin began his work as art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1936 for the film Great Guy and was involved in the production of over fifty films by 1966.

In 1945 he was nominated for an Oscar with Mark-Lee Kirk for the best production design in the black and white film When you said goodbye (1944) by John Cromwell with Claudette Colbert , Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten in the leading roles .

Together with Boris Leven , he won the 1962 Oscar for best production design in the dance film West Side Story (1961) by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins with Natalie Wood , Richard Beymer and Russ Tamblyn .
