Victor Eeckhout
Victor Eeckhout (* 1821 in Antwerp , † 1879 in Tangier ) was a Belgian orientalist painter .
In 1831 he moved with his parents to The Hague, where his father, the portrait and genre painter Jakob Josef Eeckhout, was appointed director of the local art academy in 1839 . Victor became a student of his father. In 1848 he came to Brussels and took part in art salons.
He spent the years 1865 and 1866 in Paris . He then settled in the Moroccan coastal city of Tangier , where he stayed for life. There he met the painter Jean-François Portaels . In Morocco he devoted himself exclusively to the painting of orientalism. He painted genre scenes from the lives of simple Arabs, but not fashionable harem scenes.
