Vidmantas Žiemelis

Vidmantas Žiemelis (born December 4, 1950 in Gališkiai , Molėtai Rajongemeinde ) is a Lithuanian politician, lawyer , and former Minister of the Interior of Lithuania .

Life

Žiemelis grew up in a family of teachers. He studied at the Daugai School in the district of Alytus and then at the 1st Boarding School in Vilnius . In 1977 Žiemelis graduated from the Law Faculty of Vilniaus Universitetas with a degree in law . From 1981 to 1990 he was an assistant prosecutor of the prosecutor's office for transport Vilnius and then prosecutor . In 1990 Žiemelis was elected to parliament ( Seimas ). From 1992 to 1996 and from 2008 to 2012 he was a member of the Seimas. From December 1996 to April 1998 he was Minister of the Interior . In 2011 Žiemelis received his doctorate in law. Since 2012 he has been a lawyer in the Lithuanian law firm "Žiemelis, Valys, Rugys ir partneriai".

Žiemelis was a member of Tėvynės sąjunga - Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai and the Krikščionių partija .

Žiemelis is divorced and has the son Gediminas Žiemelis (* 1977) and a daughter.
