The four-barrel was a measure of volume and grain in the Netherlands , in the Duchy of Braunschweig and in regions where the bushel was also used.

Netherlands

In the Netherlands it was called Vierdevat (Vierdewat).

  • 4 Vierdevat / Vierfaß = 1 Scheppel / Scheffel
  • 16 Vierdevat / Vierfaß = 1 Mudde
  • 1 Vierdevat / Vierfaß = 360 ¾ Parisian cubic inches = 8 Kop / Koppe = 7½ liters (390 Parisian cubic inches)
  • 12 Vierdevat / Vierfaß = 1 sack

Braunschweig

  • 1 four-barrel = 4 cups = 391 ¼ Parisian cubic inches = 7 ¾ liters
  • 1 raspberry (s) = 4 four-barrel ≈ 31.145 liters

Quedlinburg

  • 4 four-barrel = 1 pitch
  • 8 four-barrel = 1 bushel
  • 192 four-barrel = 1 wispel
  • 1 four-barrel = 2 large or 4 small Metzen = 346 ½ Parisian cubic inches = 6 7/9 liters
