Viking is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles , California that was founded in 1986 under the name Tracer , renamed Viking in the same year, split in 1990 and reunited in 2011.
history
The band was founded in the spring of 1985 by Ron Daniel (stage name: Ron Eriksen) after he had played in several punk bands before. However, this music seemed too slow for him, so he founded the band Tracer with drummer Matt Jordan and bassist James Lareau, which was later to be renamed Viking. Daniel took on the role of singer and guitarist. A short time later, guitarist Brett Sarachek (with the stage name Brett Eriksen) joined the band on an advertisement. Together they recorded a few pieces by Slayer . In 1986 the band renamed itself to Viking.
Together they wrote the first songs, some of which consisted of material from the band members' previous bands. The first smaller appearances followed. After their second concert, the band reached a contract with Metal Blade Records , which was intended for the next six albums. The band also played now as the opening band for Megadeth , Forbidden and Sacred Reich . In addition, his first own, larger appearances followed. The band released two albums with Do or Die and Man of Straw in 1988 and 1989. Despite the contract with Metal Blade for six albums and an upcoming tour with Helstar through the USA, Ron Daniel left the band because he was a Christian had found. He left the band in 1990, with him also went Matt Jordan, who also changed to the Christian faith. The band broke up that same year.
Brett Sarachek represented guitarist Jim Durkin ( Dark Angel ) on a world tour and joined the band for a number of years. In 2011 Ron Daniel and Matt Jordan re-formed the band. Manager Glenn Rogers , founding member of Deliverance and long-term member of Hirax , joined the band as a guitarist.
style
The lyrics of the band are about warriors, endless war and death. The band plays Thrash Metal, which is described as very intense. While the band played simple, primitive Thrash Metal on their first album, this changed completely, so that the pieces on the second album are far more complex.
