Vikki Dougan (actually Edith Tooker ; * 1929 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American model and actress . In the 1950s, she became famous in Hollywood as a sex symbol .

Life

Vikki Dougan was born to Wilber and Mary Tooker, the only child. She started her career as a model at the age of 11. In 1956 she got her first small film role as a showgirl in Back from Eternity with Anita Ekberg in the lead role. In the following years, Dougan was seen in other films and television series. One of her most memorable roles she played in 1958 as Gladys Dunne in the comedy The Tunnel of Love at the side of Doris Day and Richard Widmark .

Since 1953, Vikki Dougan, based on an idea from her manager Milton Weiss, has appeared in public, mostly in backless clothes, in order to gain fame as a sex symbol alongside established stars like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield . In fact, the provocative outfit earned her a lot of media attention. She was featured on the cover of several magazines such as Life Magazine and as a model on record covers. Dougan was nicknamed "The Back" by the press. She was also seen twice as a pin-up in Playboy : the first time in June 1957 and again in December 1962 in a photo series entitled Playboy's Other Girlfriends .

On their 1961 album The Slightly Fabulous Limeliters , the American folk band The Limeliters released a song entitled Vikki Dougan , which parodies Dougan's backless outfits in its text. In January 1964, Cavalier magazine published a series of twelve nudes by Vikki Dougan entitled The Back is Back . Dougan then sued the magazine for refusing to publish the photos.

In the 1960s, Vikki Dougan mainly caught the attention of her personal life and her affairs with several Hollywood stars like Frank Sinatra . In 1969 she withdrew into private life. Vikki Dougan now lives in Beverly Hills .
