Viktor Gebhard

Viktor Gebhard (born May 8, 1896 in Munich , † September 11, 1957 in Dillingen an der Donau ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

Viktor Gebhard studied Classical Philology at the University of Munich . His dissertation later emerged from a seminar paper supervised by Otto Crusius on two ancient Greek cult associations, the Pharmakoi in Ionia and the Sybakchoi in Athens . After the First World War , he first completed the probationary year in 1920 and then taught as a teacher at the grammar school in Eichstätt . From there he completed his dissertation, which was supervised by Albert Rehm and which appeared in 1926.

From 1935 on, Gebhard taught at the grammar school with upper secondary school in Dillingen an der Donau , where he was appointed professor in 1940. He retired in June 1953.

In addition to teaching, Gebhard was active in science and journalism. On behalf of Wilhelm Kroll and Karl Mittelhaus , he wrote numerous mythological and religious studies articles for the revision of Pauly's real encyclopedia of classical antiquity (RE).
