Vilhelm Ekelund
Otto Vilhelm Ekelund (born October 14, 1880 in Skåne ; † September 3, 1949 ) was a Swedish poet.
Vilhelm Ekelund was born the son of a blacksmith in Skåne, Sweden , studied in Lund , published his first volume of poetry Vårbris in 1900 and lived as a writer from then on. In his early lyrical and impressionistic poems he mostly processed experiences shaped by his childhood in the country. In Elegier (1903) his mature style shows influences from classical Greek poetry, expressionism, and both Swedish and German romanticism . Platen's influence was not only expressed formally, but also in the focus on homosexual love. Ekelund soon found no more readers or publishers, certainly also because of his explicit treatment of this topic, and stopped writing for a while.
In 1908 he was sentenced to one month in prison for obstruction of justice. To avoid the prison sentence, he went into exile in Germany and later in Denmark . In 1914 he married and had a daughter. He returned to Sweden and in 1921 his last volume of poetry was published.
