Viliam Polakovič
Viliam Polakovič (born October 19, 1943 in Račistorf ) is a former Czechoslovak table tennis player and today's table tennis trainer. He won silver in the team competition at the European Championship in 1958, and in 1961 he was European Youth Champion in all disciplines.
Career
Viliam Polakovič began in 1952 with the club STO Lokomotíva Rača with the table tennis sport and was trained by Milan Mach. In 1958 he was Slovak champion in doubles together with František Tokár , ten years later he won this title again with his clubmate Ján Tencer. In 1961 he won the Czechoslovak championship title in doubles together with Jaroslav Staněk .
As a teenager he was nominated for the European Adult Championship . He was second with the Czechoslovak team in Budapest in 1958 . In 1960 he made it to the quarterfinals in doubles. A year later, in 1961, he took part in the European Youth Champions in Bad Blankenburg (Germany). Here he became champion in singles, doubles with Zdeněk Šváb, mixed with Irena Bosá and in team competition.
In 1961 and 1963 he appeared at the World Championships for adults, where he reached the quarter-finals in doubles in 1963 . Polakovič was part of the Czechoslovak national team from 1958 to 1965.
Polakovič graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (FTVŠ) of the Comenius University in Bratislava and obtained the trainer's license A. After the end of his active career, he worked as a trainer at SVŠ Bratislava from 1975 to 1988 and was also a youth and junior National coach of the ČSSR. From 1990 to 1992 Polakovič was a trainer at ŠKST Bratislava, between 1993 and 1995 he worked as a youth trainer for the Slovak Table Tennis Association (SSTZ). He is currently coaching the MKST Hubeného Bratislava club. Polakovič is a member of the Swaythling Club International .
