The Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati (Italy) is one of the most famous villas in the Lazio region .

The property and the smaller previous villa are a gift from Pope Clement VIII to his nephew Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini .

The villa is located on a steep hill and was created from 1598 by the architects Giacomo della Porta , Carlo Maderno and Giovanni Fontana . Della Porta, a pupil of Michelangelo , was initially responsible for the addition and expansion of the villa, but died during the construction phase. Maderno and Fontana took over the garden design and designed the numerous water features and other garden elements.

Aldobrandini called the landscape the "theater of the world architect God". The focus of the Villa Aldobrandini, however, was the impressive architecture, the surrounding garden was secondary. Nevertheless, the system with its many water features consumed most of the region's water resources. The most famous elements include the semicircular water theater at the rear of the villa and the columns of Hercules . The garden of Villa Aldobrandini is considered a Baroque garden , although it was created during the Renaissance . The terraces, bosquees and mazes that dominated the Renaissance gardens have now been replaced by the all-determining axis. On this axis leading to the center of the villa, grottos, waterfalls, cascades, rays and canals are lined up. The final point is the water theater .

Villa d'Este and Villa Lante are considered to be models for the complex . The villa is still owned by the Aldobrandini princes .
