Aldobrandini (noble family)
Aldobrandini is the name of an Italian noble family that originally came from Florence , placed a pope and several cardinals in Rome and thus rose to the papal and European nobility . The sex is no longer in the male line, but today a branch of the Borghese princes bears the title of Prince Aldobrandini .
history
The family became wealthy in Florence in the 14th century through the city's international trade relations and divided into several tribes ( di Caruccio , di Neri , Bellincioni , di Lippo , di Madonna, etc.) They were in close relations with the Medici and spread into Northern and central Italy as well as Rome, comparable to the Chigi from Siena or the Odescalchi from Como.
Silvestro Aldobrandini (1499–1558) from the di Neri branch , lawyer and politician, went to Fano in 1530 from opposition to Cosimo I de 'Medici , was then appointed as a reformer for legislation in Venice and Faenza and went to Rome in 1548, where he became secretary to Pope Paul IV . His marriage to Lisa Donati came the sons Giovanni Aldobrandini (1525-1573), who later became a cardinal, and Ippolito Aldobrandini (1536-1605), who later became Pope Clement VIII. The latter ran the then usual nepotism and called his nephew Pietro Aldobrandini and Cinzio Passeri Aldobrandini to cardinals, as well as his great-grandson Silvestro Aldobrandini and relatives from other branches of the family such as Bonifazio Bevilacqua Aldobrandini and Gian Francesco Aldobrandini. The daughter of the nephew Giovanni Francesco Aldobrandini, Margherita (1588-1646), was married to Ranuccio I Farnese , Duke of Parma and Piacenza. The executions of Beatrice Cenci and Giordano Bruno fell under the pontificate of Clement VIII . After his death in 1605, the Aldobrandini quickly lost influence in Rome, but secured possessions outside the Papal States in Meldola , Sarsina and Rossano . The Roman branch died out with Olimpia Aldobrandini in 1681. Her Fideikommiß fell to her descendants from the Pamphilij family and after their extinction to the Borghese , who also descended from Olimpia , who established a secondary education for Prince Francesco Aldobrandini Borgheses (1776-1839) younger son Camillo (1816-1902). This included to 1929 the (then devolved government-owned) Villa Aldobrandini on the Quirinal in Rome with rich art collection and (to date) as from 1598 - also for Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini - by the architect Giacomo della Porta and Carlo Maderno built Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati . The current title holder is Prince Don Camillo Aldobrandini (* 1945), married to Stefania Gallarati Scotti (* 1946), the heir to the title is the son Don Clemente Federico (* 1982).
The Aldobrandini belong, in addition to their main line Borghese and the families Barberini , Caetani , Chigi , Colonna , Doria-Pamphilj , Lante della Rovere , Massimo , Odescalchi , Orsini , Pallavicini , Riario Sforza , Rospigliosi , Ruspoli and Torlonia to the most famous royal houses of the stadtrömischen aristocracy .
The Florentine line only died out in 1861 and was inherited by the Papadopoli , Banchieri and de Peon .
