The Bozen house of the painter Franz von Defregger

The Villa Defregger has been a listed building on Weggensteinstraße in Bolzano since 1985 . It bears the name of the Tyrolean painter Franz von Defregger .

The historicizing building was built for Defregger in 1879 according to plans by the Bozen city architect Sebastian Altmann and expanded in 1889. It has turrets, double arched windows and a frieze painted by Albert Stolz . Defregger lived and worked primarily in Munich , but usually stayed in Bolzano twice a year for longer periods. Here he was also a frequent guest in the Batzenhäusl , to which he gave quite a few paintings and drawings from his hand. This was later even furnished to a separate room - the Defregger room. A street in Bozen is named after Franz von Defregger: today in the Gries district , until 1929 today's Leonardo-da-Vinci-Straße was called Defreggerstraße.
