Villa Junghans in Schramberg

The Villa Junghans is a listed villa in Schramberg ( Rottweil district in Baden-Württemberg ).

history

Erhard Junghans (1849–1923) had the villa built according to plans by Karl von Leibbrand (1839–1898) in the neo-renaissance style in 1885/86. It was painted by Ernst Bader . Overall, the construction time was 15 months. The park was designed by the garden inspector Gustav Adolf Wagner (1817–1893) from Stuttgart.

After completion, Erhard Junghans, his wife Marie and their children Karl Erhard and Doris moved into the villa on November 4, 1886. After his father's death in 1923, Erhard Junghans rented the house.

From 1923 to 1933 Richard Landenberger (1881–1975) lived with his family in what is known as the "Sonnenberghaus". After he moved out, the house was initially empty. In 1933, however, the owner Karl Erhard Junghans (1879–1968) sold the house to the city of Schramberg for 100,000 Reichsmarks. From 1933 to 1945 it was known as the “Adolf Hitler House”. The NSDAP district leadership and a café-restaurant were located in the villa , while the gardens were made available to the public as the “Kurpark”.

In the 1970s, due to its contradicting history, consideration was given to demolishing the structure. This was averted due to the paramount importance in terms of architectural history.

Today there is a hotel in the villa after the building was repeatedly leased by various restaurateurs.
