Villa Rosenburg

The Villa Rosenburg is a listed villa in the town of Thale in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The villa is located at the address Hubertusstraße 3 in an elevated position on the banks of the Bode , directly at the exit of the Bode valley on a small rock plateau. Nearby is the Friedenspark , the city's spa park, and the buildings that have historically been built in connection with the park. Its distinctive location creates a special landscape effect, which has already been documented on 19th century lithographs .

history

The building was built in 1848 in the English neo-Gothic style . The builder was the secret government and building advisor Carl Albrecht Rosenthal , to whom the name, which is still used today, goes back. After his death, his daughter Elisabeth Rosenthal took over the property in 1879, but sold it to Hermann Kersten after just three years . At that time the villa consisted of a massive summer house with a tower. Kersten converted the villa into a pension and expanded the building. He ran the guesthouse until 1919. Several owners and uses followed in quick succession until Robert Männicke , manufacturer and timber merchant, bought the villa in 1923 and converted it into a private apartment. During this time the building was given its current design. Influenced by the Bauhaus style , the facade was designed in a minimalist manner. Instead of the typical regional wooden balconies, massive oriels were used .

Use as a residential building was continued until 2005. A new owner renovated and modernized the villa and furnished holiday apartments.

Due to the building style, which is unusual for the region, including the tower and the prominent location, legends and stories grew up around the house.

architecture

The plastered villa is two-storey and rests on a high basement . The floor plan is irregular. The windows are designed as tail or pointed arches . The attic is crowned with battlements . Also came tracery for execution. An octagonal tower with a roofed viewing platform rises on the south-western corner of the building facing the street.
