Villa rustica (Balzhausen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The villa rustica in the district of Balzhausen , a municipality in the Swabian district of Günzburg in Bavaria , was excavated from 1971 to 1975 on the eastern edge of the Mindeltal . The Villa rustica , two hundred meters north-northeast of the St. Maria chapel in Kirrberg , is a protected ground monument .

The main building of the Roman manor with corner risaliten has a size of 32.5 × 24.5 meters. Three rooms were heated with hypocaust systems and some walls were painted with frescoes .

A brick kiln was uncovered 125 meters east of the house and a second kiln was cut. The numerous broken bricks and false fires suggest a brick factory for the estate's own needs.

In 1978 three flint blades were found here, which indicate a Neolithic settlement.
