from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The villa rustica in the district of Bubesheim , a municipality in the Swabian district of Günzburg in Bavaria , was excavated in 1930 by the Günzburg Historical Association. The villa rustica from the Roman Empire , about 1800 meters southeast of the Church of the Birth of Mary , is a protected ground monument .

The main building of the Roman manor has a size of approximately 40 × 27 meters. It consists of two suites to the south and west and an inner courtyard. Parts of the 60 cm thick foundation walls made of hewn tufa blocks were preserved. Two rooms were heated with hypocaust systems . Remains of the screed floors , colored plastering and window glass as well as numerous small finds such as iron utensils and ceramics were still found .

About 100 meters south of the house, today in the Großkötz district , were the foundations of two outbuildings with the floor plans 11 × 8 and 6 × 6 meters.

Three large graphite crucibles and about a hundredweight iron nails are believed to have come from a craft area belonging to the estate .
