The Village Naturiste or Quartier Naturiste is a 120 hectare large nudist Plant in the east of Cap d'Agde , a district of the French city of Agde on the Mediterranean coast in the department of Herault . It is a partially urban settlement complex with two hotels and a campsite . Up to 40,000 residents and tourists live in the Village Naturiste during the holiday season . 1.5 million visitors, including day visitors, visit the site every year. Village Naturiste is the most visited naturist complex in the world. The fenced-in Village Naturiste is open from late March to mid-October. To enter the fenced area, an entrance fee has to be paid. The Süddeutsche Zeitung described the Village Naturist as the “world capital of the naked”. To the north is the Reserve Naturelle Nationale du Bagnas nature reserve .

History and site description

The Village Naturiste goes back to a campsite built by Rene Oltra in 1956 . This developed into a 38 hectare, separately fenced area, the Center Helio-Marin Oltra (CHM) with its own access control. In the early 1970s, the city of Agde planned and built the three large apartment blocks Port Ambonne , Heliopolis and Port Nature with up to five floors on the drawing board . The three-story semi - circular building Port Ambonne opens to the west to the Port Ambonne marina . The five-story, Y-shaped so-called hill house Port Nature is located between the port of Port Ambonne and the sea. The semi-circular building Heliopolis opens onto the beach and is located east of the other two concrete blocks. Row houses are located around the three apartment blocks in the midst of green spaces. In the buildings of Port Ambonne and Heliopolis there are supply options of all kinds. On the area of the Village Naturiste there are banks, a post office, doctor's offices, hairdressing salons, several restaurants, supermarkets, retail shops, laundromats and three swimming pools.

The nudist beach from the entrance to the marina Port Ambonne is two kilometers long. The sandy beach slopes gently towards the sea and is therefore safe for children to use. Another 400 m, which belong to the Reserve Naturelle Nationale du Bagnas nature reserve , are also used as a nudist beach. From the subsequent Marseillan Plage de Marseillan , nudism is prohibited. There are beach bars and restaurants on the beach; sailing boats, loungers and parasols can be rented.

Today the holiday village has also become the stronghold of swingers . There are several sex shops , five swingers clubs and a BDSM club. The quarter lost its approval from the Fédération Française de Naturisme in 2004 due to the presence of swingers. On a stretch of beach, which is also called Baie des cochons ( piggy beach ) and belongs to the Reserve Naturelle Nationale du Bagnas , sexual acts take place on the beach and in the dunes during the main visitor time in summer. Even Google Maps shows this stretch of beach, which is only 100 m wide, by name. Because of the presence of swingers, there were intermittent protests from some naturists.

Center Helio-Marin Oltra

The Center Helio-Marin Oltra (CHM) campsite , later renamed Center Naturiste Oltra , has 2,400 spaces for tents , caravans and campers . There are also some chalets on the site. The CHM offers sports fields, a children's playground, snack bars, sales stands, a first aid station, laundry and a multi-purpose tent construction for disco, dance events, and gymnastics.

Others

The most internationally known visitor is the French writer Michel Houellebecq . In his 1998 novel Les Particules élémentaires , published in German in 2001 as Elementarteilchen (novel) , he describes the nudist resort as a place where couples swap partners and lonely single men participate in sex.
