Vincenc Hlava (born March 29, 1782 in Žebrák ; † March 21, 1849 ) was a Bohemian pomologist and forest clerk. He founded the first forest school in Moravia.

Life

Hlava was a trained hunter and initially worked as a forest controller and business clerk. After he had passed the forest master exam, he tried in vain for a position in the civil service. He initially worked for the Leopoldsdorf rulership in Lower Austria , and later in Joslowitz . In 1813 he entered the service of Baron Karl Anton von Dalberg , who owned the dominions Datschitz and Maleschau . In 1821 he opened a private forest school in Datschitz with the support of his employer . Within 10 years he trained 250 applicants for the forest service there.

Vincenz Hlava was an outstanding pomologist. He set up fruit tree nurseries and had fruit trees planted on the paths of the Datschitz and Maleschau lords, as well as in the gardens of the subjects - the lordship bore the costs. Due to his outstanding knowledge as a pomologist, he was accepted by the K. u. k. Moravian-Silesian Economic Society elected as a corresponding member.

In addition, he was a forest appraiser, valuer according to Moravian land law , was a specialist in forestry regulations and also prepared forestry plans for third parties.
