from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Anton von Dalberg (born May 3, 1792 ; † March 20, 1859 in Vienna ; with full name: Karl Anton Maximilian Eckenbert von Dalberg , also Karl or Carl Maximilian Heribert Imperial Baron von und zu Dalberg ) belonged to the noble family von Dalberg and was kk chamberlain and landowner and knight of the Leopold order .

origin

Karl Anton was the younger son of Friedrich Franz Karl von Dalberg (* March 21, 1751, † March 8, 1811), who became the bishop's governor in Worms in 1775 and deputy captain of Miltenberg in 1794 . The mother of Karl Anton was the wife of Friedrich Franz Karl von Dalberg, Maria Anna (* May 30, 1756 - September 29, 1829), daughter of Adolf Wilhelm von Greiffenclau zu Vollrads.

family

On July 26, 1817, Karl Anton married Maria Karoline Charlotte (* January 28, 1791; † 1867), daughter of Karl Theodor Sturmfeder von Oppenweiler -Stkrod and Karoline von Greiffenclau zu Vollrads. She was a lady of the Star Cross . She was his cousin, so a papal dispensation was required for the marriage .

The only child that emerged from this marriage was Friedrich Ferdinand Franz Eckbrecht (born December 9, 1822 in Vienna, † September 19, 1908 in Datschitz ).

The family lived in Schloss Datschitz from spring to the end of the hunting season in late autumn, and in a rented apartment in Vienna in winter to take part in social life and the ball season.

Life

Karl Anton received a canon position in Mainz as early as 1799 , and another in Speyer in 1802 . With the secularization , this supply option no longer existed. In 1811 his father bought the Enzesfeld estate , south of Vienna, for him . After the death of his father, his older brother, Friedrich Karl Anton von Dalberg , assumed the guardianship for him . In 1815 Karl Anton von Dalberg was granted the debt for the Kingdom of Bohemia and he was given the title of Imperial and Royal Chamberlain . Since the older brother remained in the military until his untimely death, Karl Anton von Dalberg took over responsibility for the family heritage. At the turn of the year 1815/1816 he then visited the inherited dominions Datschitz and Maleschau in Bohemia for the first time and began their reorganization, renewing the buildings, including the Datschitz and Roztěž castles .

He modernized the agriculture, took over all previously leased Meierhöfe of his masters on his own and began the cultivation and processing of sugar beet . In Maleschau he set up a goods inspection, in Datschitz a central financial administration for his Bohemian goods. For his innovations, he managed to attract a number of very capable employees:

  • He won Franz von Grebner , who founded a sugar factory that initially produced in Kirchwiedern and later in Sudkol , as general representative for his goods . Its director, Jacob Christoph Rad, invented the lump sugar , which was first produced in a sugar refinery in Datschitz.
  • He won Vincenz Hlava as a specialist for his forestry and fruit growing , who also ran a private forest school in Datschitz for ten years. During this time he trained 250 candidates for the forest service there.
  • Maximilian Frey managed the palace gardening business in Datschitz, which grew hundreds of apple, pear, apricot and peach varieties and published its own sales catalogs for them. Vegetable seedlings were also grown there, for example for asparagus, and flowers.

Remarks

  1. Conversely, Karl Anton's sister Sophie (1785–1856) married the bride's brother, Ferdinand Sturmfeder von Oppenweiler, (1788–1850), royal Württemberg treasurer (Bisová: Die Kämmerer , p. 301, note 45).
  2. In Schwennicke, plate 60, there is a deviating filiation from Karl Anton Maximilian Eckenbert to Karl Alexander Heribert von Dalberg. Battenberg, vol. 3, plate XI and Bollinger, p. 81, however, locate him in the family as shown here
  3. One customer for this was Prince Primate - Grand Duke Karl Theodor von Dalberg in Aschaffenburg (Bisová: Die Kämmerer , p. 301).
