Vincenzo Rastrelli

Vincenzo Rastrelli (* 1760 in Fano ; † March 20, 1839 in Dresden ) was an Italian composer and singing teacher .

Life

Vincenzo Rastrelli studied composition with Stanislao Mattei in Bologna . There he became a member of the Philharmonic Society in 1786. Then he went back to his hometown Fano, where he accepted the position of cathedral music director .

Through the mediation of the Saxon Minister Camillo Marcolini , he came to Dresden, where he became electoral church composer in 1795. During this time his son Joseph Rastrelli was born. In 1802, however, he gave up this position to go to Moscow . He lived there for four years. In 1807 he was called to Dresden again as a church composer.

In 1814, after the Battle of Leipzig , he was dismissed by the Russian Governor General Nikolai Grigoryevich Repnin-Volkonsky and went to Italy.

Rastrelli soon returned to Dresden to work as a singing teacher at the royal court. There he gave singing lessons to the Saxon princess Amalie von Sachsen together with Johann Aloys Miksch . In 1824 he became a church composer again. In 1831 he retired.

Among other things, he wrote 10 masses , 3 Vespers and an oratorio for the Catholic Court Church , but these were forgotten.

His musical legacy is kept in the Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library.
