Vincenzellus ruficollis ( Syn . Rhinosimus viridipennis ) is a beetle from the family of salpingidae (Salpingidae). The species is the only one of its kind in Europe.

features

The beetles are 2.5 to 3.5 millimeters long. Her head is elongated and colored reddish brown. The pronotum , the legs and the base of the antennae are also colored . The species is similar to the red-necked pseudo-weevil ( Salpingus ruficollis ), but whose head is longer and trunk-shaped. In addition, the forehead of Vincenzellus ruficollis is bordered up to the compound eyes.

Occurrence and way of life

The species has been found in Italy, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Great Britain and Sweden. It inhabits moist forests and larger trees. The beetles live under the bark of dead wood from deciduous trees such as maples, European beeches and hornbeams. Both the adults and the larvae feed on bark beetles . The species is not rare.
