Vincenzo Spadafora (born March 12, 1974 in Afragola ) is an Italian politician of the Movimento 5 Stelle party . Since September 5, 2019, he has been the Italian Minister of State for Youth and Sport in the Conte II cabinet .

Life

Vincenzo Spadafora was born on March 12, 1974 in Afragola. He grew up in nearby Cardito . After graduating from school, he moved to Rome . There he worked for the UN Children's Fund UNICEF . After various experiences in non-governmental organizations, he became President of UNICEF Italy in 2008. He stayed in this office until 2011.

Political career

Spadafora began his political career in 1998 as the private secretary of Andrea Losco , then President of the Italian region of Campania . He also worked in the secretariat of the Federazione dei Verdi with Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio . In 2006 he became Secretary General of the Minister of Culture, Francesco Rutelli .

On November 29, 2011, Spadafora was appointed by the President of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini and the President of the Senate Renato Schifani as the most responsible person for children and adolescents.

In 2014 he published the book La terza Italia. Manifesto di un Paese che non si tira indietro - “The third Italy. Manifesto of a country that does not hold back ”.

He then joined Luigi Di Maio's team . There he was responsible for institutional relations. In 2018 Spadafora was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for Movimento 5 Stelle . He ran in the constituency of Casoria and won 59.4% of the vote.

On June 12, 2018, he was appointed Undersecretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for Equal Opportunities and Youth in the Conte I cabinet. In the exercise of this office he was repeatedly involved in disputes with the family minister Lorenzo Fontana ( Lega Nord ). It was mainly about the fight against homophobia.

Since September 5, 2019, Spadafora has been Minister for Youth and Sport in the Conte II cabinet .
