Vineeta Muni

Vineeta Muni is an Indian mountaineer who has participated in 23 expeditions in the Himalayas . She was best known for her participation in an expedition called the Indian Women's First Trans Himalayan Journey 1997 (Eng .: India's first journey by women through the length of the Himalayas 1997) . She started mountaineering at the age of 15 and joined the Nehru Institute for Mountaineering in Uttarkashi as a student .

Indian Women's First Trans Himalayan Journey 1997

The expedition to cross the length of the Himalayas took place in 1997. At the beginning of the tour, seven other women took part in this expedition in addition to Vineeta Muni. The first part of the expedition was led by Bachendri Pal , the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest . In Dharchula the group split up after previous conflicts and Vineeta Muni continued the tour with only two other women ( Sumita Roy and Malika Virdi ) under the title To Walk Across the high Himalaya. A Journey by Indian Women '97 (German: Crossing the high Himalayas on foot. A Journey of Indian Women '97) . The expedition started on February 4, 1997 in Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh . It lasted a total of 198 days and the route had a length of 4500 kilometers and led through Bhutan and Nepal in addition to India . The group crossed 39 passes with over 3000 meters and another 15 pass heights with more than 2000 meters.

First ascents

Vineeta Muni is the first to climb 9 peaks in the Himalayas, including four six-thousanders, the 6130 m high Petze Kangri , the 6127 m high Khhang Shiling , the 6165 m high Nga Kangri , the 6405 m high Lapgong Peak and the Chamsen Kangri with 7017 m.

Movie

Together with her husband, Divyesh Muni, Vineeta Muni performed a first ascent, which was documented on film. Portal 101 India financed and organized this expedition and suggested the two take an untrained young man, Rosh, on the expedition to make the film more dramatic. The result was an eight-part series for Youtube, which was published under the title My Epic Adventure - Journey to the Himalayas (Eng .: My great adventure - a journey in the Himalayas). A 25-minute version of the film was shown in 2017 in New Delhi at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation film festival.
