history

2007–2012: Foundation and first publications

The band was founded in 2007 in Leoben , Styria by Michael Dreschnig ( guitar , vocals ), Thomas Troppacher ( drums ) and Christian Steiner (vocals), Lukas Marak ( bass ) and Christian Pillich (guitar). In the same year the first shows were played and the first rehearsal room demo was produced. In 2008 Vinegar Hill played in various band contests and was able to secure a place in the finals at the Newcomer Band Contest in Orpheum Graz . They also achieved a top placement at the Metalchamp Contest at Planet Music Vienna. In that year work began on the first serious publication. In 2009 the EP From Deathbeds We'll Rise was released. There are 6 songs on it, some of which were self-produced (instrumental recordings) and some in the home studio of a Viennese sound engineer student (vocal recordings, mix and master). It took 3 years before the next record, this time a full-length album , should be released. The Styrians' next work was published in 2012 with the title The Road to Grace on Office4Music. The LP contains 12 songs that were produced with Heiko Ernstreiter in the Neonsound Studios in Leoben. In December 2012, the band and the singer Christian Steiner parted ways.

2013–2014: line-up change and first music videos

In spring 2013 Dominik Stadler joined the band as a new singer. This year the band only played 4 shows and first had to find new strength. In 2014 the first official music video for the single Faint Cold Fear was released, which was produced by drummer Thomas Troppacher via Cheap Shots Productions. The song was self-recorded and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios . Shortly afterwards Christian Pillich announced his departure from the band. At short notice, Markus Keimel jumped in as a substitute guitarist and played a few shows with the band. At the Kaltenbach Open Air Festival 2014, the band played only four people with Michael Dreschnig as sole guitarist, and another show in Fürstenfeld was played with this reduced line-up. Shortly thereafter, Oliver Seebacher was brought into the band as the second guitarist. In October 2014 it was possible to play again in a 5-man formation. In November, the second music video for the single Firebirds was released. The song was produced in-house again and this time the mastering was done by the German Eike Freese. The video was again produced and published by Thomas Troppacher with Cheap Shots Productions. As a partner for the backline in the video, a competent partner was found in Thomas Wecht from TWSP Amps & Cabinets . Since then, the cooperation with TWSP Amps & Cabinets has been deepened and a kind of endorsement has been agreed. Both videos from that year were released on the Los Angeles YouTube channel BlankTV .

2015–2016: New album, concert highlights and first label discussions

In May 2015, the second long player entitled Monophobia was released on RecordJet. This album was also produced in-house, the mastering was done by a good friend, Erich Ettl. Monophobia contains 9 tracks, including 7 new songs and the two singles from 2014 as bonus tracks. Vinegar Hill then played a release tour in Austria with the German Metalcore veterans Deadlock . Shortly thereafter, the band was confirmed for the largest Austrian open-air festival , the Nova Rock Festival 2015. On June 12, 2015, Vinegar Hill opened the Nova Rock Festival on the Blue Stage, this gig is considered the band's biggest gig up to see this time. In addition to other club and festival shows, new songs have already been worked on. In May 2016 the band released a new single including a music video entitled Risk to Fall . As usual, the song was produced in-house and this time a good friend, Rowin Höfer from makmaimedia, was called in to provide professional support for the video. Was shot u. a. the bike park at Semmering and at the summit as well as shelter from Stuhleck .

At the end of 2016 Art Gates Records got in touch with Vinegar Hill for the first time, the talks were intensified and aimed at a deal with 2017 for the next album.

2017–2019: Art Gates Records, 3rd studio album Ghost Flowers and line-up change

In January 2017 the contract with Art Gates Records for the next album was signed and released. The recordings for Ghost Flowers were already in full swing, the release date was set for December 1, 2017 and the label recommended it as the last release in 2017 on Art Gates Records. The cooperation with Sea Shepherd was also fixed in 2017, and Vinegar Hill, along with other Austrian artists and bands, is the official support band of Sea Shepherd Austria. In July, in cooperation with the Neue Sportmittelschule Trofaiach and again with the support of Rowin Höfer, the next video for the first single from Ghost Flowers was shot for the song Last Piece of Me . The topics of bullying and cyber-bullying were discussed and as a project with the school, all roles were filled with students from the school or played by the band. The video for Last Piece of Me was released in September 2017, and further videos for songs from the album were subsequently released. Ghost Flowers was launched on December 1, 2017. On December 2, 2017, Vinegar Hill presented her new album at a release and 10-year anniversary show in her hometown of Leoben.

2018 started with the Metal over Malta Festival in March and is therefore the first show to which the band traveled by plane. Another highlight this year is the support of Sweden's Dark Tranquility and the German Equilibrium on the Atoma Tour Europe 2018 at 6 shows in April, played in Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Germany. In addition to other festival shows in summer 2018, work has already begun on new material for a fourth studio album.

In autumn 2019 there was a change on the second guitar - Oliver Seebacher left the band surprisingly, his position was taken over by Andreas Fahrleitner.
