Vincent Hediger

Vinzenz Hediger (* 1969 ) is a Swiss film scholar and university lecturer .

Life

Hediger grew up in Reinach AG and studied philosophy , film studies and American studies in Zurich . From 1989 to 1999 he did his doctorate at the University of Zurich on the importance of the cinema trailer . From 1993 to 2000 he worked as a media journalist and film critic for various Swiss daily newspapers. From 2004 to 2011 Hediger was the holder of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Endowed Professorship for Film and Media Studies at the Ruhr University in Bochum before moving to the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt in 2011 , where he holds the professorship for film studies. From October 2016 to March 2017, Hediger was a Senior Fellow at the International College for Cultural Technology Research and Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus University Weimar .

His main research interests include the history and aesthetics of film, the history of film theory, film economics and the history of media knowledge. Hediger is co-founder of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS) and was co-editor of the magazine Montage AV .

In 2007 Hediger was elected director of the Cinémathèque Suisse ; however, he later rejected the election. In 2017 he was elected to the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz .

Vinzenz Hediger is the son of the painter Kurt Hediger .
