VinziRast-CortiHaus

The VinziRast-CortiHaus is a homeless facility run by the Vinzenzgemeinschaft St. Stephan in Vienna's 12th district of Meidling . It has an emergency sleeping facility with 48 beds and offers meals, shower and overnight accommodation. In addition, 29 places are offered in 16 apartments for former homeless people.

history

In 2002, Pastor Wolfgang Pucher presented the idea of an emergency sleeping place for people who for various reasons cannot find accommodation in other facilities (e.g. foreigners) - the “VinziDorf Wien”. The model for this was the VinziDorf , which was started in 1993 and made up of construction containers and residential modules of the Vinzenzgemeinschaft Eggenberg in the Vinzenzkirche in Graz .

Cecily Corti , Axel Corti's widow , took over the management of the project. In 2003 the association "Vinzenzgemeinschaft St. Stephan" was founded. A donation from a private person enabled the purchase of the house at Wilhelmstrasse 10 in Vienna-Meidling. VinziRast , which opened on April 6, 2004, is run by volunteers and financed through private donations.

With the support of Hans-Peter Haselsteiner , STRABAG and some companies in the Austrian construction industry, it was possible to renovate and expand from 2007. Three floors were rebuilt, two floors added. Sixteen small apartments were built. In addition, the basement and reception were renovated and the emergency sleeping area received a new kitchen and new lounges. In May 2008 the rebuilt house opened, which was renamed VinziRast-CortiHaus due to the expansion .

In 2008, Cecily Corti was awarded the Knight's Cross of the French Legion of Honor (Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur) for her commitment and in 2010 the Gold Medal of Merit for Services to the Republic of Austria .

On June 1, 2010, the VinziRast-CortiHaus residential community was opened at Wilhelmstrasse 10 , in which six formerly homeless people are living abstinent after withdrawal from alcohol or therapy. The company is accompanied by volunteers, the residents receive medical and therapeutic support from the addiction researcher Otto Lesch.

In 2013 the house "VinziRast mittendrin" was opened on Währinger Strasse in Vienna's 9th district. The special thing about this house is that formerly homeless people live here with students in shared apartments. The restaurant "Mittendrin" is located on the ground floor.
