Violent Soho is an Australian alternative rock band from Brisbane .

Band history

Founded Violent Soho in 2004 as a school band in the east coast city of Brisbane. At first they only performed in their hometown, but after releasing their first EP titled Pigs & TV in 2006, their notoriety rose and they went to other cities such as Sydney and Melbourne to perform . In 2008 they took part in the St. Jerome's Laneway Festival with events in several major cities. In the same year her debut album We Don't Belong Here was released. Thurston Moore of the American band Sonic Youth came across this album and gave Violent Soho a recording contract in the USA. A revised version of their debut album was released with the band name as the title and with the song Jesus Stole My Girlfriend they had a respectable hit in the US rock charts in 2010. In the United States, however, they were unable to build on it despite further publications.

But their next album Hungry Ghost 2013 brought them the breakthrough in their homeland. It went straight to number 6 in the Australian charts and after extensive tours and performances, including at Big Day Out , the album returned to the charts in 2014 and was ultimately awarded gold . The song Covered in Chrome was also awarded gold in 2016.

It took two and a half years until the next album, Waco . With this, the band jumped straight to number 1 in the Australian charts in April 2016 . At the ARIA Awards that same year they were recognized for the best rock album and best band of the year.
