The Lesser Weever ( Echiichthys vipera , Syn. : Trachinus vipera ) is a fish art from the family of weever (Trachinidae). It occurs in the coastal area of the eastern Atlantic , the North Sea and the entire Mediterranean Sea and lives on sandy soils. Since it is often in very shallow water, close to the beach and also has a very strong poison in the fin rays of the first dorsal fin , it is considered the most dangerous species of weever.

The Viperqueise is similar to the common weever , but is significantly smaller, somewhat compressed and less greenish than this. The body length is 10 to 15 centimeters, the body height about a fifth of the body length.
The Viperqueise is dark gray on the top and light gray on the underside. The flanks are brownish, the back is drawn throughout with small black dots. The gill covers are light silver in color. The mouth is almost vertical.
Habitat and behavior
In contrast to the weever, the Viperqueise always stays in flat, sandy shore zones. It only moves to somewhat deeper zones during the spawning season from June to August.

The diet of the Viperqueise consists of shrimp , young fish, spawn and small bottom animals.
