Virgilio Rosario
Virgilio Rosario (* 1499 in Spoleto , † May 22, 1559 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Rosario completed his studies with the degree of Doctor iuris utriusque and became parish priest and commander abbot of Santa Maria Rotonda in Naples . He went to Rome and became Canon of Santa Maria ad Martyres .
On August 27, 1554 Rosario became the Bishop of Ischia appointed and received on February 24, 1555 in the Sistine Chapel by Cardinal Giovanni Michele Saraceno the episcopal ordination , co-consecrators were Ascanio de Ferrariis , former Bishop of Montepeloso and Fabio Mirto , Bishop of Caiazzo .
On March 15, 1557, Rosario was elevated to cardinalate by Pope Paul IV and received the titular church of San Simeone Profeta on March 24, 1557 as a cardinal priest . From 1558 he was vicar general for the city of Rome and one of the cardinals who should decide the matter against Cardinal Giovanni Girolamo Morone .
He died of a sudden death on May 22, 1559 around 10 o'clock in the morning in the Apostolic Palace ; he choked on his own blood from a ruptured vein in his chest. He was buried in the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva .
