Virginie Ancelot , origin. Marguerite-Louise Ancelot (born March 15, 1792 in Dijon , † March 21, 1875 in Paris ) was a French writer and painter .

Ancelot came from a long-established family in Dijon, her father was the MP N. Chardon.

At the age of twelve, Ancelot was allowed to go to Paris in 1804 to learn painting in various studios. There she met the writer Jacques-François Ancelot around 1816/17 and married him in 1818. With him she had a daughter, Louise-Edmée, who later married the lawyer Charles Lachaud (1817–1882).

Until her husband's death in 1854, her salon on Rue de Lille (Paris) was a popular weekly meeting point for writers and artists. After that, she withdrew from the public eye and devoted herself to writing alongside her grandson.
